Trumpeter BR 86 Dampflokomotive 1/35 In Box Review
My favourite genre of modelling, is of course model railway, however I have to admit I have never built a plastic scale kit loco. I currently have a BR64 steam locomotive on pre-order , when Lenz release it next Spring. Last week, I was delighted to receive a large parcel from Jim, I had no idea what it was until I opened it.
WOW !! What a huge suprise this was ! The Trumpeter 1/35 scale Trumpeter BR 86 Dampflokomotive, fabulous, what a stunning pre-Christmas Present !
Cheers Jim !
I make no apologies for the number of photo's herein, its worth showing you whats in the box, it is packed to the top.
The kit has 18 sprues, some of them duplicated, for left and right sides I should think. At first glance there does appear to be quite a number of ejection pin recesses that will require filling and sanding, as they are mostly in visible areas. Also inclueded is 1 small PE sheet, decals, clear parts and few optional parts for different lights or foot board. The instruction appear to follow the classic exploded diagram style of instructions. The box art is very impressive showing 2 different colour schemes , black & field grey.
The Paperwork :
I have to say, the packaging of this kit is superb, there are two separate packs of external pipework like this.
The rail ties (sleepers) are very nicely detailed with separate rail parts, and even the rail joiners are modelled.
Inside some of the poly bags, smaller more delicate parts are even protected with foam inserts. I am impressed with this.
The Clear parts and a small photo etch part as supplied.
Finally, a separate box containing the moulded road bed for the completed track assembly, this will make a nice display base.
What do we think ?
I am really looking forward to building this kit, the parts count appears to be huge, and the loco should be very well detailed when assembled. Its a shame so many parts have ejection pin recesses on the visible side, but hey ho, filler and sanding should soon sort that out.
When the building gets underway, it will of course be documented.
Overall, a fabulous kit of a superb loco, with just a few niggles. From a personal point of view, its a shame these kits aren't manufactured in 1/45 scale, I reckon many Lenz enthusiasts would like one as a static model on their layouts. I know I would !
