EagleCals are having a field day with Luftwaffe markings and I have the impression they are trying to slake the endless thirst of World War II Luftwaffe modelling fans.

Set EC48-130 is the sheet for this review, but EagleCals have also produced this set in 1/32 scale as EC32-130 issued to coincide with the recent release of the Hasegawa 1/32 Bf 109 F Trop – yummy!

The observant amongst  you will have seen (Part One) as a suffix to the top line of this review, and this means that Part Two is set EC#131,  also available in 1/48 and 1/32,  giving four more options of the type.

EC#130 has marking options for four aircraft:

  • Bf 109 F4 Trop  “White 1”  W.Nr. 10117  4./JG 3  Pilot: Lt. Albert Helm  San Pietro  February 1942
  • Bf 109 F4 Trop  “Yellow 3” 6./JG 3  Piloy: Uffz. Franz Scweiger  San Pietro  February 1942
  • Bf 109 F4 Trop  “<||”  Stab II./JG 27  Libya  February 1942
  • Bf 109 F4 Trop  “Yellow 10”  II./JG 27

The instruction sheet is the usual A3 folded to A5 and printed full colour on one side which contains the small and large fuselage side views and the smaller two views of the top and undersides for camouflage markings and decal position.

The reverse side in mono gives all the detailed information the modeller requires for each aircraft with references where applicable. The colour references are particularly good and show the amount of variation that occurred on different aircraft with full RLM colour call outs.

As I said on a previous EagleCals review, attention to detail is excellent. So, take care when about to slide decal 39 onto the port and starboard wing leading edges – there are four options! You have been warned.

As for the decals themselves, they are printed by Cartograf.com and they are superb. Perfect register, crisp detail and one has the ability to read the smallest of typefaces. They passed my magnifying glass test with no trouble at all.

So what do we think?

An excellent release by Eagle Editions and one that will be welcomed by 1/48 and 1/32 modellers alike, but especially the latter with the new Hasegawa kit release of the marque. Well done EagleCals – keep ‘em coming.

1/48 scale = US$15.00

1/32 scale = US$17.50

Overall 10/10
