KIT NEWS: Sd.Kfz.184 Ferdinand 'Kursk 1943'
Unsuccessful in their bid to provide the chassis for the then new Tiger I, Porsche used these unwanted hulls as the basis for a new heavy tank destroyer, the Sd.Kfz. 184. Initially named Ferdinand, after the Porsche designer, and first seeing action at the Battle of Kursk in 1943, the vehicles were modified and renamed Elefant in mid 1944 (the main differences were the addition of zimmerit, a bow machine gun and a commander's cuppola to the Elefant).
DML have already given us a number of models of both variants, but have now announced this Ferdinand, which comes with Magic Tracks, extensive photo-etch and an aluminium barrel. It is unclear at present whether this is a complete new tooling.
